Description

This is a cross-curricular history-inspired project in six parts, each guiding your child through an exciting journey to the past, as they enjoy activities in four key areas. It is 44 pages long.

English activities begin each chapter, with an invitation to enjoy language activities, solve puzzles to build comprehension skills or craft a piece of writing. The STEM section includes science experiments and engineering or technology activities, as well as mathematical problems and concepts. Exploring the World facilitates even deeper exploration of the topics, perhaps through research into specific historical or geographical elements of the topic, a field trip or practical challenge. In the Arts challenge, your child can enjoy an arts or crafts project or develop musical appreciation.

FAQs

Who wrote and illustrated this unit study?

The content was written by Sarah, an experienced English teacher and home educating parent, and illustrated by Will Carey, an Edinburgh artist and illustrator.

What age is this suitable for?

This is a flexible resource pack aimed at children aged approximately 7 – 9 years (Lower Key Stage 2 in the U.K.). Younger children will enjoy the activities and can scribe to a parent helper, while older children can be challenged with the extension suggestions.

Do I need to purchase any additional material?

You will need to purchase just one book for this learning journey: Stone Girl, Bone Girl by Laurence Anholt, illustrated by Sheila Moxley ISBN: 9781845077006 https://www.waterstones.com/book/stone-girl-bone-girl/laurenceanholt/sheila-moxley/9781845077006

You will also need basic household items, stationery, art and craft materials

How long should I spend on this and how should we structure our time?

This is entirely up to you. You could spend one week on each chapter, focusing on a different area for each day. Alternatively, you could work through all those activities in one or two full days. Six weeks is almost half a U.K. school term so it would work well as a half-termly topic for more structured home educating families, with plenty of room to expand and develop, or families who choose to work more freely could work through it at their own pace.

What are the rules around refunds and copyright?

We cannot offer refunds on any digital products. This is strictly for your own family’s personal use and is absolutely not to be shared in any form with anyone else, or resold.

Do you offer any ongoing support?

Absolutely – join our Facebook Group (Imagination Shed Home Ed Club) for support and advice using our products or if you have a specific query please message me at theimaginationshed@gmail.com.

How will I receive my product? Once you have purchased the curriculum, it will be automatically available for download and emailed to you. If you cannot see it within a few minutes in your inbox, please check your spam folder and if you still cannot find it there is a technical glitch so please let me know at theimaginationshed@gmail.com.

Will there be any more in the series?

Yes – I am currently working on the second part of the journey!
